A roundtable with Mayor Kenney

February 20, 2019

We’ve been proud members of the Sustainable Business Network for over 11 years. A few weeks ago The Monster Minders owner and founder Carrie Maria, met with Mayor Jim Kenney and other business owners at a Sustainable Business Network round table. (And like the nerd she is, Carrie grabbed a seat in the front row.) Questions and answers ranged everything from our Sanctuary City status to the health of the fish in the Delaware River.

As a business we are committed to a sustainable future for Philadelphia. While most people don't think about dog walking as an industry that needs to be "cleaned up," our industry is bogged down with companies hiring independent contractors instead of employees (to dodge employee protections) and national tech companies taking market share from small, local businesses. A thriving local economy, made up of sustainable local businesses is important to us as a company and to us as humans (who love our community).

While puppies were not discussed it was an important conversation about where our City is now, and where we’re going. (It would have been more fun if dogs were in attendance.) The Sustainable Business Network stated vision statement is: We envision a future where businesses are investors in the quality of life for all citizens. We challenge and support the business community to build profitable enterprises that serve community needs, share wealth, and protect the environment.
