Tessa Peloso from PHL17 interviews Carrie about the Dog Costume Contest.

We’re thrilled to announce that we were featured on PHL17, with reporter Tessa Peloso covering all the festive fun coming to the East Passyunk Fall Fest this Saturday! The short news feature captured the heart of the day: South Philly pride, silly costumes, and a chance for everyone (humans and dogs alike) to get in on the fun. Minder Nikki joined us with her pup, Chicken (who was dressed as a Spicy Chicken Sandwich) and of course we had Tui by our side (our charming canine cowboy.)

Two costume contests. One great day.

First up, at 11:00 AM, join the human costume contest hosted by South Fellini. Whether you go as your favorite South Philly character, a quirky local icon, or creepy ghoul — it’s your moment to shine.

Then at 12:30 PM, we'll host the Doggie Costume Contest at the Singing Fountain. You’ll see adoptable pups from Street Tails Animal Rescue and celebrity judges from Companion Pet Hospital and Constellation Dog Academy.

Don't have a costume? Don't fret! Street Tails Animal Rescue will be bringing gently used costumes (and holiday sweaters) to Fall Fest! Swing by their table (down by the craft vendors in the parking lot above Morris) to snag a last minute costume!

What to bring / What to expect

  • Arrive early for the human costume contest at 11:00 AM if you’re participating.

  • For the doggie contest (12:30 PM): come with your pup, costume ready, leash in hand, and plenty of cheer. Remember: our categories are Spookiest, Funniest, Pop Culture Icon, and Dog / Human Duo (with a Best Overall winner too!)

  • Follow us on Instagram @themonsterminders for photos, updates, and behind-the-scenes from the event.

  • Whether you're entering your pup or simply a dog-obsessed spectator, we can't wait to see you on Saturday!

  • The event runs 11-4PM on the avenue and expect heaps of crafty vendors, artists, food and music.

Everyone who was featured posses with Tessa after the shoot wrapped up! Shout out to South Fellini, Nice Things Handmade, Sam Heimer (Artist), and Huston West (event banjo player!) And Chicken and Tui of course!

A big thanks

Thank you to Tessa Peloso and the PHL17 Morning News Team for showcasing this event and helping us bring more attention to our community, our pets, and our neighborhood. We can’t wait to see you all on East Passyunk Avenue this Saturday!

Fall Fest is presented by Nice Things Handmade + The East Passyunk BID.
