The Monster Milers  (Volunteer Dog Running Org)

The Monster Milers are a 501c3 volunteer and foster-based rescue organization. Our primary mission is to connect volunteer runners with shelter dogs. We provide ongoing support for shelter facilities in Philly by organizing adoption events and daily running adventures for homeless dogs. Our Lifesaving efforts save lives directly as we rescue dogs from Philadelphia’s intake shelter and place them in loving homes via our foster and adoption programs.

The Monster Milers was formed by Minders founder/co-owner Carrie Maria in 2010.  After running with her own dogs, she had an "ah-ha moment." Wouldn't shelter dogs benefit from regular runs? The program exploded overnight and other similar programs are popping up all over the United States after The Monster Milers received national press.

Over 400 Philadelphia runners currently run dogs at the PAWS Adoption Center in Old City, the PAWS Wellness Clinic in Grays Ferry, and at Street Tails Animal Rescue as “Monster Milers.” We are rescue partners with ACCT Philly and regularly rescue dogs directly. We have been featured in national publications such as USAToday.com and Runner’s World. Runners of all levels are invited to become a Monster Miler and foster homes are always needed. Sneakers required.

The Rescue Run 5K

Want to race for rescue? We host an annual 5k to benefit local shelters, rescues and the Miler foster program. The Rescue Run 5k is Philly's only race for rescue. Learn more!
