From Philadelphia to DogCo Summit: Sharing 21 Years of Dog-Walking Experience

Apparently I have a few things to say about building a dog-walking company. Possibly more than a few. Give me a microphone and a room full of people who care about this work, and I'll be there. (Fun Fact: I used to hate public speaking. Like racing heart, body sweats and all, but when I'm talking about 'The Minders, it's on! I love the work and I love sharing what has and hasn't worked for us.)
Recently, I headed to North Carolina for DogCo Summit, where I joined a panel of experienced business owners to discuss leadership, the future of our industry, and what it takes to build a company that serves both its clients and its employees well.
It was an opportunity to bring The Monster Minders’ experience to a bigger
conversation.

It was also a weekend spent with some of the best and brightest people in our industry. Smart, generous people who are enthusiastic about supporting their teams, safety and building solid companies. We ate biscuits together, we took notes together and we learned from each other..
These are MY people.
If you are reading this and thinking, "It's wild that there is a conference for dog walking," it might blow your mind to know that while the room was full of pet pros, we were LESS focused on the act of "dog walking" and focused more on sustainable growth, being thoughtful and targeted with our marketing, and how we can leave a legacy in the years to come. Speaking on a panel with five other amazing business owners whom I have grown to adore and trust was just the icing on the cake for me.
Apparently it resonated. After the conference was over the organizer, Michelle Kline shared:
"I have to confess though that one of the coolest parts of this happened completely by accident. You see: I did not intentionally form a panel of female business owners. It actually never crossed my mind that this panel would be women only. It just happened organically, because that’s such a core part to our industry: badass female leadership."
I came home energized and proud. Thank you to the DogCo community for a weekend full of laughs, thoughtful conversations and good company. And thank you to our team and clients, who have helped make 21 years of The Monster Minders possible.
